KEFWA UNION VISITS FORMER HARAMBEE STARS AND AFC LEOPARDS DEFENDER ABDALLA JUMA ‘MUSTAFA’, SETS UP BUSINESS TO SUPPORT HIM AND MOTHER
After years of serving Kenyan football at the highest level, former Harambee Stars and AFC Leopards SC defender Abdalla Juma is receiving renewed hope through KEFWA’s player welfare support, as the union helps him rebuild his life through mental health recovery and sustainable livelihood.
Once regarded as one of Kenya’s finest full-backs, Abdalla Juma enjoyed an accomplished career representing the Harambee Stars and top Kenyan clubs including AFC Leopards SC, Thika United, and Sofapaka FC. However, life after football brought unexpected challenges as he battled mental health and depression.
Through its player welfare initiatives aligned with FIFPRO values, KEFWA stepped in to support his recovery journey, facilitating rehabilitation, counseling, and ongoing care. To promote long-term stability, the union has also established a family business in Shanzu, creating a sustainable source of income for Abdalla and his mother. His story highlights the urgent need for stronger mental health support, dignity, and structured transition programs for retired athletes in Kenya.
