Despite getting an injury that halted her target of getting 10 clean sheets during the 2020-2021 KWPL season, Lavender Atieno tells a story of bravery, courage, and commitment, after being nominated among the finalists for the first-ever KEFWA Gala Awards as the best Left Back.

“I feel excited and encouraged. Being among the finalists of the first-ever KEFWA Gala Awards is an honor. I am going to do my best to ensure I am back here again next time” says Atieno.

The Zetech University student currently pursuing a Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management notes that last season was tough and very competitive, but she is glad to have helped her team which is under the tutelage of tactician Bernad Kitolo.

“Last season was tough, competitive and my biggest challenge was an injury but I am glad I recovered and had exemplary performances. I thank the coach, technical bench, fellow teammates, and our sponsors Zetech University who helped me get the best medical and emotional support that I was back sooner,” she says.

Atieno reveals that her favorite hairstyle is braiding since they help her manage herself easily when in the pitch.“My best hairstyle is plaiting braids. They are comfortable because you can plait once a month and they are not expensive. Also, when in the field, it is easier for me to dribble past opponents,” she added.

With her parting shot, she appreciates the event organizers, while sharing a message to her fellow footballers whom she urges to make use of their talents.

“I appreciate the organizers who came up with these awards because we are now motivated to work hard and play our best. As a player, this is your talent from God. If you want to make it grow, it’s for you to put in more effort, and believe in yourself because nothing stops you from being who you want to be.”
