Former Abana ba Ingwe AFC LEOPARDS SC captain and Harambee Stars midfield maestro Martin Imbalambala has rallied on Kenyan fans to get back to stadiums.
Speaking after attending a KPL match at Nyayo Stadium, a place he calls ‘home’, the renown midfielder noted that it is a high time for all stakeholders to put in concerted efforts and return the sport to higher levels.
“I am very happy to be here. Nyayo Stadium carries a lot of strong memories for me because this is the place that as a player I made historical moments. It was also great to hear the fans vibrant and jubilant, although I believe we can more to increase the turnout,” he noted.
According to Imbalambala, the growth of local football will spearhead a lot of positive changes, including bringing back the glory and demeanor of the Kenyan players.
After graduating from the Kenya Society for The Blind (KSB), Imbalambala is currently attached to the Kenya Footballers Welfare Association (KEFWA), where under the secretariat he is handling Players With Disabilities (PWDs), while also offering mentorship and counselling to footballers.
“I am really appreciative of KEFWA for the inedible work they are doing to change the trajectory path of Kenyan footballers. Under the tutelage of our president James Situma and the rest of the team, the union is poised to achieve greater milestones.”
Imbalambala is now planning to get back to football, not as a player this time round, but along the touchlines as a tactician. Being a professional coach, he says, will enable him to continuate where he left by nurturing the upcoming talents.
