Kayole Starlet midfielder Lucy Njeri’s plan for life after football.

Despite the fact that most footballers are known to prefer remaining within the profession even after retiring, these modern-day masters of the beautiful game are expanding their horizons as they hustle beyond the sport. Most of them have taken on other tasks when they are not on the pitch with some turning into money minting ventures.

Lucy Njeri.A 25 Year Old Mother of One, has a rich football journey starting out at Kariobangi Sports, Old is Gold, Makolanders, Soccer Sisters, and is currently in Kayole Starlet.

However,unbeknownst to most, Njeri ventured into cake business at the time the pandemic struck and after Kenya Footballers Welfare Association (KEFWA)came through helped her in fees and supported me until she graduated.
After successful completion of her coursework, Outside of her football career,When she is not on the pitch, Njeri currently, runs her own Cake Baking Business where she bakes Queen cakes and birthday cakes and sells them,Mostly her customers are her fellow players in the pitch and neighbours.

Cake business has been good and I can’t complain since now I can pay for my bills without depending on the Endmonth Salary. Most of my customers are my fellow players and usually engage in the bussines at the stadium and after the matches hence making it easier for me to balance football and business,” Says Njeri.

The business is situated at Kahawa but mostly door to door delivery.

According to her and as the old adage goes, ‘Football is a short career,’ is clearly something one should abide by and have started making provision to maintain their lifestyles beyond their playing careers. Choose something to engage in like coaching,Start a business and be determined since it is all about hardwork. Work towards alternative income generating opportunities like business investments, Saccos, side hustles and even gaining skills and experiences by furthering education.

Football has been fair to me because through football have done the CAF D course which has given me alot of knowledge now i can coach both senior and junior teams only on Weekends. I am also grateful to Kenya Footballers Welfare Association (KEFWA) for coming through and supporting my hustle,they have trully made an impact in my life” added Njeri.

Njeri was among the 30grassroot coaches who graduated after successful Coaching course where she received her CAF D Coaching course Licence held at the Kariobangi North Primary School.
