MESSAGE FROM THE SECRETARY-GENERAL, DAN MAKORI

Dear Players, Stakeholders, and Partners;

I am humbled and honored to address you today as the Secretary General of our esteemed union. Having previously served as the Assistant SG since 2015, I understand the responsibility that comes with this role, and I am committed to leading our union towards greater achievements and advancements in the football community.

As a professional teacher, my passion for education and capacity building has been instrumental in driving positive change within our union. During my tenure as the head of the Education Department, we successfully forged partnerships with renowned institutions like Zetech University and others to empower our members for life beyond their football careers.

This initiative has not only provided opportunities but has also given our players a secure foundation for their future endeavors.

My primary focus as the Secretary-General is to ensure the welfare of our professional football players. We are dedicated to empowering them through comprehensive capacity-building programs, heightened awareness, and strategic resource mobilization.

By partnering with organizations and leveraging our union’s resources, we will continue to uplift our members in various aspects of their lives.

One of our central goals is to work closely with the Football Kenya Federation to implement key thematic areas that are essential for the well-being and success of our players. These areas include standard contracts, minimum wages, combating fake agents, incorporating player release clauses, and preparing our members for life after football through comprehensive exit plans.

We firmly believe that every player’s career transition should be seamless, and they should be adequately prepared for life beyond the pitch.

Moreover, I am deeply committed to bridging the gap between our union and other stakeholders, including our loyal fans, valued partners, sponsors, and the media. Each of you plays an instrumental role in highlighting the incredible stories of our members. We recognize your unwavering support, and together, we will continue to elevate the spirit of unity and solidarity in the football community.

Resource mobilization is crucial for achieving our ambitious objectives. Our union conducts various initiatives such as “Mind The Gap,” empowering members with essential business skills, “Road to Recovery,” focusing on player rehabilitation, and programs promoting mental health awareness and Menstrual Health Hygiene (MHM) for our women. We also provide valuable education on financial literacy and conduct campaigns like “Red Button” and “Play My Part” to inspire positive change.

I want to take this moment to extend our heartfelt appreciation to our sponsors, FIFPRO , for their incredible and unwavering support. Your partnership has been indispensable in driving our efforts to new heights, and we are truly grateful for your commitment to our cause.
