Kenya Footballers Welfare Association (KEFWA) has issued a statement urging clubs to respect players’ contracts during the transfer windows. The organization which is mandated to protect and promote the welfare of professional footballers in Kenya expressed concern about the growing trend of clubs releasing more than 10 players at ago creating a Unfair and unstable environment.
KEFWA has called on football clubs to respect players’ contracts during transfer windows and to release players only when all contractual obligations have been met. This plea comes amidst concerns about the treatment of players during transfer periods when clubs often attempt to secure new signings without adequately addressing the rights and obligations of existing players.
The transfer window is a critical time in the football calendar when clubs assess their squads and make strategic decisions about potential signings. While this period can present exciting opportunities for players and clubs alike it also becomes a source of anxiety and uncertainty for those whose future may be uncertain.KEFWA emphasizes the importance of clubs adhering to contractual agreements as these contracts are legally binding documents that outline the terms and conditions of the player’s employment. These agreements not only provide players with financial security but also ensure fair treatment and protection of their rights.
Players who have entered into valid contracts with their clubs deserve to have those contracts honored. Any attempt by clubs to release players prematurely without fulfilling their contractual commitments is both unfair and potentially unlawful. KEFWA urges clubs to recognize and respect the significance of these agreements and to engage in fair negotiations and dialogue with players if the need to transfer arises.
” It is crucial that clubs respect the contracts of players. Players sign these contracts in good faith and expect them to be honored. We cannot allow the transfer market to become a free-for-all where players are treated as commodities rather than human beings. The well-being and career progression of players must be prioritized.” KEFWA Secretary-General Dan Makori stated.
In addition to advocating for clubs to honor existing contracts KEFWA also encourages players to be proactive in familiarizing themselves with the terms and conditions of their agreements. By understanding their rights and obligations players can better navigate the challenges and uncertainties that often accompany the transfer window.
KEFWA also acknowledges that there may be situations where amicable solutions can be reached between clubs and players such as loan deals or mutually agreed terminations. However, these solutions should be reached through open and transparent discussions ensuring that all parties involved are treated fairly.
As the transfer windows continue to be a pivotal time for clubs and players. Ultimately, KEFWA’s call for clubs to respect players’ contracts during transfer windows is aimed at fostering a more equitable and professional environment within the football industry. By upholding the integrity of contractual agreements clubs not only demonstrate their commitment to fair treatment but also contribute to the overall growth and development of football hence creating an environment that promotes transparency professionalism and integrity in the transfer market.
