Harambee Starlets and Ulinzi Fc forward NeddyAtieno successfully graduated with the UEFA CTP training event held in Lusaka, Zambia. Organized by FIFPRO in collaboration with its member unions, the UEFA CTP is a unique and innovative programme designed to help players who are either reaching the end of their playing career or have recently retired to plan for their professional future.
It gave footballers a greater insight into their own skills, how these can be useful even off the pitch, and the openings available to them. By the end of the programme, the participants had a better understanding of their professional interests, such that were enabled to plan their career transition as smoothly as possible.
“I am really thankful to Kenya Footballers Welfare Association for nominating me to apply for the UEFA Academy Assist Career Transition Program, after which I was selected to attend the training held in Lusaka, Zambia in collaboration with FIFPRO Africa.
It was an insightful training course that unlocked our minds to see the huge opportunities that we can undertake while in careers, soon-to-end, or retired. I know this is an area where most of my peers encounter challenges, but now with the requisite knowledge and experience, we will spread the word,” she noted.
As a beneficiary of their capacity-building programs, Atieno advises football players to become members and work more closely with KEFWA to capitalize on their empowerment opportunities, noting, “You will never know the taste of coconut water till you break the shell.”
